Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members. The elected representatives of cooperatives are accountable to the membership. To ensure democratic integrity, members need to participate by attending the annual meeting, letting their board of directors and management know of problems or concerns, and volunteering to serve on the board or other committees.

Each year during the month of June (a date set between the first Saturday and two weeks thereafter), Fergus Electric Cooperative holds its annual meeting. The meeting includes lunch, entertainment, a business meeting and election of directors. The next annual meeting will be held on June 9, 2011.
